Building a Campfire

There's something about a campfire that makes camping enjoyable.
The campfire is great to cook breakfast over, have a cookout in
the afternoon or evening and gather around and tell stories.
Singing songs is allowed of course, along with roast
marshmallows at the day's end.

With a few precautions, you can ensure that your campfire
experience brings you wonderful memories of toasted
marshmallows and smiling faces. Cooking a meal in a
dutch oven over an open fire pit can also be enjoyable.

Many campgrounds have designated fire pits, others may not
allow any open pit fires whatsoever. The best thing to do is
check and obey the rules where you plan to camp. Even if you
are camping remotely, outside of a camping park, it is
prudent to be properly equiped with fire extinquishing
techniques.

Building a campfire can be a good experience when the proper
procedures for making a campfire and safety precautions are
followed. Prepare a complete checklist for equipment required
to make a fire, along with fire safety procedures.

Campfires can easily burn out of control. Keep your campfire
well within the borders of the prepared fire pit, and keep it
small to avoid sparking.

Before leaving, make sure that your campfire is completely out.
When you are finished, douse the campfire with plenty of water,
gently dig up the fire to uncover any hot spots and douse it
with water again. Finish up by turning over the fire debris
inside the fire pit to make sure everything is cold, and never
put remaining fire ashes into trash cans or throw ashes into the
brush just outside of your campsite.

Most desired is to have your campfire experience bring you
